Queens Of The Pop Age: Lady Gaga VS Katy Perry

Pop music's "Thriller In Manila"

There is a war being waged in the pop world that may have went over the casual music listeners head. This war is between New York's very own Lady Gaga who has been regarded as the premier act in pop music and Katy Perry, the fierce ballad equipped pop princess from California. Now before you go all east vs west coast on the situation lets put this into perspective, the two have had a singles battle this past August with the releasing of  Lady Gaga's "Applause" and Katy Perry's "Roar". If first week sales are any indication then Katy Perry is winning the battle up to this point, in the first week Katy Perry sold 557,000 singles of Roar and Gaga only sold 218,000 of Applause. Lady Gaga's Roar music video has been viewed over 44 million times on YouTube and Katy Perry has 4 million after being released last night. If recent fan animosity(via social media and YouTube comments) and every media outlet pitting them against each other wasn't a cry  for war then MTV's Video Music Awards should give subtle indication as to the atmosphere between the two. Lady Gaga opened the VMA's with a demanding dance performance and Katy Perry ended the VMA's with a performance in a boxing ring near the Brooklyn Bridge. Both seemed as if they were trying to make a point... to each other. No matter who wins the battle for pop music supremacy this is one that will be interesting and could possibly shape the pop music landscape. Stay tuned.

Cool Hand Kyle

Kyle is one of the most refreshing rappers in a long time. There's always a viral sensation or a hidden jewel among the most avid new music listeners. Kyle seems to possess both, he's experienced huge viral success with his music videos like BANG and Keep It Real yet Kyle isn't anywhere near a household name yet. That's ok with Kyle though, given the fact he is only 20 years old and with each project he has shown progression its fair to assume he will do just fine.

People are going to compare him to a lot of other rappers, his flows can resemble Big Sean's at times. The most notable comparison will be Drake. For starters he's biracial, raps, and sings so the Drake comparisons will be endless, and he classifies as a "Backpack Rapper" so he'll be lumped into all of those categories. All in all I see Kyle in a different light, sure there's flashes of Drake but his lyrics are often funny, witty, ironic and satirical like if Jerry Seinfeld wrote it. So if Jerry Seinfeld was black... and could rap... and was Drake... then yes that would be Kyle in a nutshell.

Here is Kyle's latest work "Beautiful Loser" from his official Soundcloud. Don't forget to buy Beautiful Loser Deluxe Edition on iTunes and follow Kyle on twitter @superduperkyle and instagram @superduperkyle

SuperModels: Doutzen Kroes

Supermodels may be the most coveted good of the male species. Whether you are the average everyday kinda guy or some high flying baller the idea of having a Supermodel as a girlfriend or partying with one runs through a guys mind about 7 minutes per hour a day(maybe not quite... but you catch the drift.).

Meet Doutzen Kroes the Dutch bombshell, not only is her beauty breathtaking but she is also one of the coolest models around.

There is always a lazy stereotype that models are all beauties with no brains and superficial characteristics but this is mostly so far from the truth, especially with Doutzen. She is from a small town in the Netherlands and was a tomboy when she was young who loved the outdoors, she also desired to be a teacher before she was discovered by Paparazzi Model Management. In present day Doutzen is regarded as one of the premier models on the planet with countless magazine covers and runway appearances. Last year she was ranked in the top 5 on Forbes list of top earning models with just over 6 million in revenue.

When Doutzen is not gracing runways with her presence you may catch her at one of your favorite electronic dance music festivals with her husband and world famous DJ Sunnery James, one part of the duo "Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano". Douzten and Sunnery have a child together, 19 month old boy Phyllon Joy Gorre'. In 2014 Doutzen Kroes will also be going to space as part of her charity for the fight against the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Loving mother and wife, talented businesswoman, world famous supermodel, and philanthropist Doutzen has it all.

Be sure to follow Doutzen and her husband Sunnery James on instagram, they are some of the most active celebrities on social media and they always post cool pictures.

Laura Jones Element Of Sound

You may not be familiar with the name Laura Jones but she is one of the key players in the resurgence of the modern dance music scene. I can remember working for a music festival in Detroit the first time I met Laura Jones. We were at a decaying yet regal hotel turned nightclub hotspot in downtown Detroit, I had watched her perform earlier at the music festival so I proceeded to formally introduce myself. When I met her I noticed a few things for one she's quite small in stature, bleach blonde with a great urban chic sense of style. The other thing that I noticed is that she can't see very well, she has a friend who assists her wherever she goes due to this deteriorating eye condition she has had all her life. Nevertheless Laura is one of those cool DJ's, someone who has magical presence. All of these things considered the legend of Laura Jones gets even grander by the day, month, and festival appearance, here's her newest mix "Transitions 468".

Kendrick Has Control

This is a moment in HipHop that is all so surreal, were all not quite sure what we are watching but one thing is for sure... Kendrick Lamar just made things interesting.

In short time Kendrick Lamar has done alot of things in HipHop, one thing he has never done was disappoint. This week has been one of the most tumultuous times in HipHop history. Quite possibly we are witnessing a power shift at the top of the hiphop ranking list. When Big Sean leaked the track "Control" featuring Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica that was not cleared for his album Hall Of Fame the internet was set ablaze.

The angry rapper feedback on twitter and through diss records was expected, but when you wake up, turn on ESPN and even they are recognizing Kendrick Lamar's verse as a top story is where everything gets fuzzy. Kendrick Lamar struck a chord with the entertainment industry and pop culture as a whole, his now infamous name dropping of artist he wanted to destroy and his venomous intricate lyrics has put everyone on edge.

This may very well be the best thing to happen to HipHop music in the last 10-15 years. The genre as a whole is moving back into that great time where lyrics, content and subject matter play the more prominent role to the success of a record. In the end isn't this what we all wanted? Rap was getting to be too nice and friendly, what ever happened to the good ole times when every rapper wasn't best friends and taking pictures with each other on instagram? Everything will be different after this, everyone is in battle mode as they should be. The kid from Compton is out for the crown while preserving the integrity of HipHop with every slayed verse .. Let the games begin!
